Earlier today, the Environment and Climate Change Amelioration Initiative ( ECCAI) in partnership with Education as a Vaccine (EVA) with support from African Activists For Climate Justice (AACJ) and FEMNET, marked the 2023 International Day of the Girl Child in Unique Secondary School, Makurdi.
ECCAI staff took turns to facilitate discussions on this year’s Theme: “INVEST IN GIRL’S RIGHT” OUR LEADERSHIP, OUR WELLBEING.
200 girls in the school joined our selected Climate Justice club members in the celebration.
The girls freely participated in the discussion, highlighting some of the challenges they face as gender inequality and menstruation among others. They proffer solutions such as establishing girls’ clubs in the school to address their challenges in the school environment. They also pledge to amplify their voices in ensuring the demand for their safety, Education, and Well-being in society to prepare them for leadership and motherly roles and in nation-building.
The proprietress and some staff of the school participated in the activity.
