ECCAI join other CSOs in Benue State in an interactive session with the National Population Commission.
The interactive session held at the conference hall of the First Step office saw in attendance 54 participants from across CSOs in Benue state and gentlemen of the press. The purpose of the session was to interact with the CSOs concerning their involvement in the forthcoming National Population Census which is expected to commence in April of 2023.
The Honourable Federal Commissioner shared with members the experiences gathered from the just concluded mock (trial) census and the modalities put in place to have a hitch-free census. She expressed the Commission’s commitment to having a successful census come 2023 which will capture everyone in the country including the mad people for the purpose of having data that can be used for planning for development purposes.
She said the CSOs will be fully involved so as to reach the far-to-reach areas and that enumerators will be deployed to their areas of locality, especially with the security challenges being experienced in the country.
She also stated that the census has been digitized, mapping out every area in the country as much as possible.
As part of the plans to have a census devoid of conflict, she said the questions bothering on religion and ethnicity have been deliberately eliminated to make room for one Nigeria as what they’re interested in is the statistics of people living in Nigeria. Goodwill messages were given by the representatives of the various Networks in attendance with a question and answer session to cap up the height of the discussion.
The interactive session recorded a huge turnout and it was a success
